A record number of classic vehicles rolled into Audlem on Sunday 26 July as visitors turned out for the village's annual Festival of Transport.
Although a couple of morning showers threatened to put a dampener on proceedings, exhibitors were undeterred, with so many vehicles arriving that some of the tractors had to be displayed on the adjacent car park after the main exhibition area reached capacity.
For many of the drivers, however, the day's standout moment came before the show had even begun.
The traditional procession from Hankelow to Audlem drew its biggest crowds yet, with spectators lining the route to wave and cheer the convoy of classic cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles and tractors as they passed through the village.
Lynne Smith, from the volunteer-run Audlem Special Events Team (ASET), said one exhibitor compared the experience to being on the silver screen.
"One of the drivers told us, 'It makes me feel like a film star,'" she said.
As the weather brightened, visitors remained on the playing field well into the afternoon, enjoying live music, refreshments and the hundreds of vehicles on display alongside the annual gathering of historic narrowboats on the canal.
For Lynne, it was the atmosphere that made this year's festival particularly memorable.
"The sun shone and the drivers and spectators stayed well into the late afternoon enjoying the music and the hospitality on offer," she said. "The highlight for ASET was the atmosphere created by the drivers and spectators."
The Festival of Transport, organised entirely by volunteers, is one of Audlem's flagship summer events and has become a regular fixture in the South Cheshire calendar, attracting vehicle enthusiasts and families from across the region.
